Green Green Green - A Meditation

I stand three stories up, wide windows facing the first thunderstorm of the year
Claps and blasts from the swirling sky
Lighting and tall buildings tied together
I was shaving when it started, then stopped half bearded and walked over
to press my face to the glass to get a glance outside
A warm rain speaks of the seasons to come
The inevitable sunshine - refracted in the rain like a prophecy

These are the days we’ve waited for and dreamt of when
the cold wind blew us back down into the subway staircase
These are the days we’ve waited for and dreamt of when
we literally wondered if we owned enough clothing to stay alive in the sideways snow

All those winter days luscious and wonderful were in their own cold way,
but this… this is everything. This is what we’ve waited for…

The green that bursts through the ground
like children through the door at the end of a school day
like kombucha out of a shaken bottle
like flame from the end of a match

The thunderstorm brings out the lush colors of everything alive and sky-reaching
and I walk down three flights of stairs to see it

Today may you learn from them - all these creatures that are greens greens green.
Today may you be reminded of yourself by them.
Today may you be nourished by them. Today may you tune into that deep-time version of
yourself and imagine how many springs our human species ancestors have been witness to -
coming forth like a miracle after countless generations waited eagerly for it’s arrival

Go find yourself today. Spring-born and alive in a living world
